8.4 Human Systems and Resource Use

The human population is increasing rapidly and the maximum sustainable population is very difficult to determine. Some argue that we will continue to increase the Earth’s capacity for humans through innovation and technology while others argue that there is a limit which may have already been reached or exceeded.

An ecological footprint is a model which attempts to determine whether humans are living within their means.
